Bedhatu Jibicho has been producing coffee for over 50 years on her 84-acre farm in Gedeb district. Bedhatu employs 20 year-round workers and 130 seasonal workers for the harvest who are primarily women. Bedhatu’s family emphasizes on social impact on the communities and has invested in localized coffee cherry collection sites to reduce the transportation cost for other producer in their community and contributed to local road construction projects to improve travel for everyone.

He is said to be the first to grow coffee in India by bringing seven raw beans from the port of Mecca, Yemen while coming back from his Hajj. In those days coffee was exported to other parts of the world in roasted or baked form so that no one could grow their own.
